Le Glay, Maurice/Abascal - Orientalisme.Maroc. Trois récits marocains. - 1930

Le Glay, Maurice. Three Moroccan tales. Illustrated with watercolors by Abascal. Casablanca, The Bibliophiles of Morocco, 1930. Grand in-quarto, loose leaves under a backed, cloth-covered binding with a title piece on the spine, matching case. Unique edition of 150 copies numbered, all on Arches paper specially made and watermarked with the Society’s emblem. Copy no. 61. Important Moroccan bibliophile work, the first book published by the Société des Bibliophiles du Maroc, under the direction of Gaston Gradis, a founding member. Typography by the Vaucher brothers; engraving by Maccard; etching in soft-ground by Porcabeuf; coloring by Saudé; initials, title, watermark and ex-libris designed by Henri Creuzevault. Printed in Paris, completed October 15, 1930. Fine colonial luxury publication devoted to Morocco, illustrated with watercolors by Abascal: views of Rabat, street scenes, Moroccan architecture, doors, minarets, mountain landscapes and scenes of local life. The layout combines classical typefaces, red initials, orientalizing ornaments and Arabic characters inserted in the text. The work is also valuable for its bibliophilic apparatus: a list of the founders and active members of the Society, with figures based in Casablanca, Rabat, Paris, Buenos Aires, Bruges or Ghent. Notably Gaston Gradis, Maurice Le Glay, and Henri Creuzevault as corresponding member, and Madame Allard, bookseller of the Society in Casablanca. Interior overall fresh, nice margins, watercolors well preserved. Some browning and pinholes, especially on the white leaves and guards. Cover with stains. Case and slipcase present, rubbing, wear to the headbands, corners and edges."
