An exemplar of extraordinary rarity and great interest for collectors of the history of medicine, scientific book collecting, and Enlightenment curiosities. It is a scarce Spanish translation of the renowned Compendium Anatomicum by the German physician and surgeon Lorenz Heister, one of the leading figures of eighteenth-century medicine. This edition is especially valuable for its scarcity in the Spanish-speaking market. It also includes the author’s historical dedication to Giovanni Battista Morgagni, considered the “Prince of the Anatomists” of his time, to whom Heister expressly dedicates this edition. The greatest treasure of this volume lies inside: a splendid set of calque engravings of great scientific rigor and artistic quality. The plates, many in large fold-out formats, illustrate with astonishing precision osteology (skulls in different views, the complete skeleton), internal organs, the brain, and a magnificent and detailed myology of the hands. These illustrations served as a cutting-edge visual tool for European surgeons of the era.
