Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Colima. A ceramic figure standing on spread legs, with arms crooked at the elbows so that the hands press to the chest below delineated nipples. The burnished surface carries a bichrome scheme, reddish slip against a paler cream ground with manganese deposits consistent with burial. Facial features include a ridged nose, modeled brows and lidded eyes, and a closed mouth. The figure is adorned with a flaring headdress or turban, spool earflares, a nasal ring, a collar at the throat, and a painted loincloth spanning the hips. Figures of this Pihuamo type are associated with funerary and commemorative use in the shaft-tomb tradition of western Mexico. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
