A striking and highly decorative Italian tabletop vanity mirror dating from the 1950s, standing an impressive 50 cm high. Far more substantial than a typical dressing-table mirror, this elegant piece combines functionality with the rich decorative language of the Rococo Revival / Louis XV style. The circular mirror is surrounded by an elaborate openwork frame decorated with scrolling foliage, acanthus-inspired motifs and an imposing ornamental crest. The sculptural pedestal base is equally impressive, richly modelled with flowing leaves, scrolls and architectural details. The mirror is mounted between two lateral pivots, allowing it to be tilted and adjusted to the desired viewing angle. When brought completely upright, an original locking system secures the mirror in the vertical position. The reverse retains its characteristic red backing, a charming period detail. The entire piece has been professionally and carefully cleaned, removing decades of oxidation and accumulated surface deposits. The treatment has beautifully revived the bronze-toned finish, bringing back the depth, definition and splendour of the richly worked decoration while retaining the authentic character and patina of a vintage piece. There are some small chips and losses to parts of the ornate base, clearly visible in the detailed photographs. Thanks to the complex sculptural design of the base, these imperfections are surprisingly discreet when the mirror is displayed and hardly affect its overall aesthetic appearance. The mirror remains stable and fully functional.
