All auctions / Glass / LARGE COLLECTION OF TEN ROMAN GLASS UNGUENTARIA

Ca. AD 200 - 500. A collection of ten free-blown glass unguentaria and bottles. The upper register contains three large vessels: an amber unguentarium with a conical body and exceptionally elongated neck, a pale-blue piriform bottle, and a dark-blue drop-shaped example with a broad everted rim. Below are a green globular flask supported upon applied feet, a small blue vessel with a spreading base, and five tubular or fusiform unguentaria in blue, green, amber, and dark-purple glass. Their rims are variously rounded, folded, or outsplayed. The surfaces preserve substantial earthen deposits, opaque weathering, and pronounced iridescence. Size: 60-130mm x 15-40mm; Weight: 250g Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier held in an old family collection formed over the period 1960s–2000.
