Two lavender-colored amethysts in a square carré cut and a shimmering pearl are the protagonists of this powerful, large ring from the 1930s. After the so-called white jewels made of platinum and diamonds had dominated the scene in the 1910s and 1920s, a new interest in gold and colored gemstones emerged in the 1930s. Yellow gold and red gold returned to jewelry design, accompanied by stones that provided freshness and vibrancy with intense colours. This ring is a typical example of this fashion. Its design is expansive, curved and full of fine, hand-crafted details: the small gold granulations on the sides, for example, were a novelty in the 1930s: they cover the surface like tiny dots of light and were also a sign of the goldsmith's mastery, as attaching them to the gold sheet without melting them in immediately requires great experience. The ring came to us here in Berlin.
