A refined set of nine matching black lacquered serving trays, each decorated with an individual scene in gold and silver hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design). The compositions combine landscapes and seasonal plants with objects suggesting human activity, while figures themselves are notably absent. The different scenes include a white rabbit leaping above waves before a rising red sun, rain-swept pine branches with a parasol and lantern. Several scenes are accompanied by implements, hats or other personal objects, giving the compositions a subtle narrative character. Executed in various shades of gold and silver hiramaki-e against a glossy black lacquer ground. Each tray has softly rounded corners and is raised on low bracket feet. Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868–1912). Dimensions: Height 2.8 cm, Width 27.2 cm, Depth 27.2 cm. In very good condition with minimal traces of age and use, including a few tiny lacquer chips. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition. When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
