You are bidding on a fine and rare antique 18th-century 4/4 violin, bearing the label: Bernardus Calcanius Fecit Genuae Anno 1745. This beautiful instrument remains in good, ready-to-play condition, with some old, professionally repaired cracks on the top and sides. The violin features a very attractive one-piece maple back with soft flaming, complemented by a straight, high-grain spruce top. The instrument retains its charming golden-amber varnish and is fitted with an old rosewood set-up. The sound is particularly appealing, offering a warm, mature character in the lower registers and a bright, sweet tone in the upper registers.
