Labat & Pugibet – Pair of salt cellars in 950‰ solid silver, Minerve 1st title, Paris circa 1880–1897 Description : Beautiful pair of French salt cellars in 950‰ solid silver, made in Paris by the silversmiths Labat & Pugibet, active from 1877 to 1897. The mounts are finely pierced and chased in a rich Neo-Renaissance / troubadour decorative style, composed of scrolling foliage, chimeras, fantastic mascarons and small hanging elements. Each salt cellar rests on three small pierced feet. Both pieces retain their glass/crystal liners, perfectly suited to the mounts. The visible marks include: Minerve 1st title, French guarantee for 950‰ silver; maker’s mark L & P, with the cordwainer’s awl, attributed to Labat & Pugibet. Net silver weight: 19.05 g per salt cellar, i.e. 38.10 g of 950‰ silver in total, excluding the liners. Fine silver weight: approximately 36.20 g. Overall very satisfactory condition for late 19th-century pieces, with signs of use and light patina appropriate to age. Decoration well preserved and highly legible. The liners are present; their exact condition is shown in the photographs. Beautiful pair of antique Parisian goldsmithing, of interest for its identified silversmith, its especially rich decoration, and its preservation with both glass/crystal fittings.
