λ PAUL LUCIEN MAZE (FRENCH/BRITISH 1887-1979), GUARDS LEAVING BUCKINGHAM PALACE

λ PAUL LUCIEN MAZE (FRENCH/BRITISH 1887-1979) GUARDS LEAVING BUCKINGHAM PALACE Oil on board Signed 14.5 x 57cm (5½ x 22¼in.) Exhibited: London, Wildenstein& Co Ltd, Paul Maze and the Guards, 10 May - 2 June 1973, ex cat. Oxfordshire, Blenheim Palace, Paul Maze and Winston Churchill: Companions of the Brush, 11 July-13 November 2022, no cat. no. What may be termed the dramatic moments in the city’s life, its ceremonies, its ritual and its pageantry, stir and kindle his imagination. The black and scarlet of a guardsman’s uniform seen against a warm grey background of architectural detail, the veridian green of plane trees lining the paved and yellow Mall; these and other everyday sights of London have an irresistible attraction for his eye. (Lord Ivor Spencer-Churchill, 1939) Condition Report: The work is framed and was not examined out of its frame. There is no evidence of any retouching under UV light. There is some very slight surface dirt overall, commensurate with the age of the painting. Otherwise the work appears to be in good overall condition.
