KOETZLE (Hans-Michael). — Photo Icons: A Brief History of Photography. Volume 2: 1928–1991. Cologne, Taschen, “Icons” series, [2002–2003]. In-8, publisher’s illustrated hardcover, 192 pp., numerous black-and-white and color photographic reproductions. French edition. ISBN of this copy: 2-7434-4695-1 — EAN: 9782743446956. Edition distributed exclusively for Maxi-Livres, featuring the large original “Taschen for Maxi-Livres” sticker on the front cover. The second volume of this brief history of photography conceived by Hans-Michael Koetzle, covering the period 1928–1991. The book is not merely an anthology: each chapter begins with an iconic photograph and traces its origins, historical context, reception, and place in the history of the medium. Notable subjects include Dorothea Lange, Robert Doisneau, Martin Parr, and several of the leading figures in 20th-century documentary and artistic photography. The photographs in this copy include a spectacular two-page spread devoted to a scene from political photojournalism, as well as the chapter on Richard Peter Sr., featuring reproductions from his famous book on Dresden in ruins after World War II. The standard French edition of *Photo Icons II* is listed as 192 pages, in a format of approximately 15 × 21 cm; it was published in 2002 as part of the “Icons” series. A fine copy. The hardcover is still in fresh condition, with some slight rubbing and minor signs of wear on the caps and corners. The interior is very clean. The Maxi-Livres sticker remains on the front cover; it attests to this specific distribution but does not, in and of itself, constitute a factor of rarity.
