A substantial small quarto volume, paperback with a gilt cover featuring a cutout in the shape of a keyhole, 755 pp., very lavishly illustrated with black-and-white and color photographs. Texts in German, English, and French. ISBN 3-8228-8935-0. A major anthology of nude and erotic photography, compiled from the Uwe Scheid Collection. The book traces the history of the medium from the first photographic nudes of the 19th century through the early decades of the 20th century. The BnF catalogs this edition specifically as: Paris, Taschen, 1994, 755 pages, and classifies it under “Erotic photography—Private collections—Germany,” among other categories. Numerous anonymous or attributed photographs, academic studies, studio nudes, prints, and early erotic photographs. The original 1994 Taschen edition of this compilation, not to be confused with the 2005 anniversary edition, which was reduced to 575 pages. Condition: interior in good condition; gilt cover showing scuffing, scratches, and wear, with a small surface tear at the upper corner of the back cover and wear along the edges.
