DESCRIPTION: I present at auction a truly exceptional specimen for its interior integrity: a London-printed edition of the KING JAMES BIBLE by Robert Barker & Assignes of John Bill in 1633, which preserves intact the preliminary and supplementary sections that are most often missing in market copies. COMPOSITION AND INCLUDED SECTIONS: Unlike most copies of this era (which were rebound without liturgical or ornamental parts), this volume preserves an extraordinary and complete set of its period supplements: + "The Booke of Common Prayer" (1633): Retains its full title page and imprint by Robert Barker & Assignes of John Bill (1633). It is extremely unusual to find this initial title page preserved. + "The Genealogies Recorded in the Sacred Scriptures": Compiled by John Speed ("By J.S."), retains its immaculate typographic title page with the intricate woodcut border intact. + "A Description of Canaan, and the bordering Countries": Complete geographical descriptive text accompanying the map. + Map Engraved of Canaan and the Holy Land: Splendid and detailed fold-out double-page engraving by John Speed, including the plan of Jerusalem, the Exodus iconography by the Red Sea, and the tribes of Israel. + "King James Bible" (Old and New Testament): Both testaments preserve their famous architectural title pages with woodcut historiated borders depicting the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles, printed in 1633 (M.DC.XXXIII). It contains the Apocrypha books. + "The Booke of Psalmes" (1633): Metred edition by Thomas Sternhold, John Hopkins and others (Imprinted by I. L. for the Company of Stationers, 1633), complete at the end of the volume with its respective title page. VALUABLE HANDWRITTEN ANNOTATIONS OF THE PERIOD (FAMILY REGISTRY, 17th AND 18th CENTURIES): One of the great historiographic attractions of this copy lies in the abundant original ink manuscript notes on its flyleaves and preliminaries, recording the family genealogy and ownership of the volume across more than two centuries: + Ownership and Invocation (18th Century): Highlights the ownership inscription "Thomas Garnett his Book 1767" accompanied by the traditional devotional couplet in period calligraphy: "God give him grace on it to look, and not to..." Births and Deaths Register (17th - 18th Century): + "Adam Siddall son to Edwd Siddall was baptized march yᵉ 16 1645" (March 16, 1645). + "Adam Siddall departed this life april yᵉ 1st 1730" (April 1, 1730). + Later Garnett family notes (Jane Garnet, John Garnet, Edward Garnet - 1767 / 1801). These marks make the book not only a premier bibliographic object but a living piece of English social and family history from the Stuart and Georgian periods. PUBLICATION YEAR: London (England, United Kingdom) 1633 LANGUAGE: English SIZE AND PAGINATION: Dimensions: 23 x 18 cm.
