DESCRIPTION: I present at auction an exceptional and robust specimen of the Holy Bible in Swedish (All den Heliga Skrift), printed in Stockholm by A. L. Norman. The volume contains the II. Nya Testamentet (New Testament), dated 1865 on its inner cover, while the spectacular spine of the binding shows the year 1866, identifying this tome as the personal book of Ola Pålsson. A volume of great physical presence, perfect for collectors of historical Bibles, theology, or lovers of high 19th-century artistic binding. The most outstanding and valuable feature of this piece is undoubtedly its imposing and elaborate period binding, preserved in extraordinary condition: + The boards: Covered with a beautifully speckled leather that mimics a feline or tortoiseshell pattern. In the center of both boards stands a large black leather panel firmly inlaid, decorated with a deep and detailed blind relief depicting a sacred scene: a large cross beneath an architectural arch and a Paschal Lamb on the altar (Agnus Dei). Solid wood boards of approximately 1 cm thickness provide incredible protection and strength. + The spine: Made in dark leather with raised bands, studded with fine and elegant gold tooling with floral and geometric motifs. It bears in perfectly legible gilt lettering the inscription: "GESELL. BIBEL / Tredje Bandet" alongside the name of the original owner and the date (Ola Pålsson. 1866). + Hardware and Clasps: The book features an exceptional protection system. It incorporates 8 metal studs or rivets with hemispherical heads (4 on each board) intended to protect the leather from rubbing when the volume is laid down. + The closures: On the front edge are preserved two sturdy leather tassels or closures with textured leather, finished with elegant bronze or brass (chiseled) leaf or shell-shaped fasteners that fit perfectly into the pins of the opposite board, securely compacting the thick volume. The interior of this exemplar stands out for its exceptional cleanliness and preservation. The paper is very fresh, showing notable whiteness for its age and only a very slight and natural patina at the margins, completely free of major rust stains (foxing) or dampness. Likewise, the work enjoys absolute integrity: the Gothic and Roman types are sharp and perfectly legible, while the book block remains firm and tightly bound to the binding, with no loose leaves or structural faults. CONDITION: Binding with speckled leather boards and a spectacular central black leather panel with blind-pressed sacred motifs (the cross and the Paschal Lamb). It features sturdy hardware and chiseled metal closures on the edges that add a touch of distinction, strength, and luxury. It is in very good condition, with minor, time-typical wear as shown in the photos. The spine is inlaid with fine gold floral motifs and decorated with the title of the work, the name of the original owner, and the year (1866) in perfectly legible gold lettering. Heavy solid wood covers give the volume a monumental presence. The interior is preserved in excellent condition, with notably clean, fresh, and firm pages, as shown in the photos.
