kimekomi - Doll Kimekomi - 1970-1980 - Japan

Splendid and authentic vintage Japanese collectible doll, entirely handmade using the precious traditional Kimekomi technique. The figure depicts a noblewoman or princess of ancient Japan (Hime) holding a traditional golden ritual bell Suzu. Technical Details and Craftsmanship: • Kimekomi Technique: The body is carved in the traditional way (pressed/turned wood) and the luxurious kimono fabrics are inserted and tucked by hand millimeter by millimeter inside micro-grooves. • Materials: The sumptuous multi-layered kimono is made from authentic worked silk brocade (Nishijin-ori / Kinran) with floral weaves in vibrant colors (orange, green, and red) and gold and silver threads. • Facial details: The face, with finely painted features, is finished with classic mother-of-pearl powder (Gofun) that gives the characteristic smooth, white porcelain texture. Elegant gold ornaments adorn the long black hair. Measurements: • Height: about 24 cm (as shown in the photo with a measuring tape). Condition: The item is in excellent vintage condition. The silk fabrics are perfectly preserved, free of tears or stains, and retain their original luster. The face and hairstyle are also well preserved (only very slight and normal signs of aging). The lower base is finished in purple fabric. An oriental decorative piece of great charm and refinement, ideal for collectors of Asian art or lovers of the Japandi style. Fast shipping with professional, ultra-protected, and shockproof packaging.
