Jean-Louis Dhuit, known as Kesta (born 1936) “L’Aguichante”, 2015 Oil on wood panel 60 × 80 cm Signed and dated “KESTA 15” in the setting Frame: made by the artist in simple black plastic Condition: rare small accidents and signs of wear visible (see photos); the work remains remarkable, with a strong presence and an intact composition. Description Large female figure inspired by Art Nouveau, treated with decorative elegance and a stated sensuality. The young woman, with long wavy red hair, stands in a languid and provocative pose, the bust exposed, one leg raised, direct gaze. A crown of yellow and orange sunflowers frames her head, while gold and ochre draperies slide over the body. The turquoise background, slightly cloudy, is bordered by a pink and lilac ornamental frame, made of swirls and stylized motifs reminiscent of the decorative panels of the Belle Époque. The brushstroke is broad and expressive, the outlines firm, the warm colors of the flesh and hair contrasting vividly with the cool background. The overall impression is one of presence that is sensual, ornamental, and highly legible. A decorative and immediately seductive work, ideal for a large wall or an Art Nouveau interior. Biography Former student of the École Boulle and the Decorative Arts, Jean-Louis Dhuit was head decorator at ORTF (variety shows, Guy Lux, Richard Anthony…) before settling in Étagnon, near Ambert (Puy-de-Dôme). Under the name Kesta, he developed a personal oeuvre where geometric and optical abstraction holds a central place, alongside gestural series (“Pomp’Art”), landscapes, nudes, and symbolic figures.
