All auctions / Contemporary Art / Kengiro Azuma (1926–2016) - Senza titolo - disegno a...

Pencil drawing by Maestro Kengiro Azuma, internationally renowned artist, historic pupil and assistant of Marino Marini at the Brera Academy. The work is closely linked to the historic Il Salotto Art Gallery in Como (founded in 1965 by Giuseppina Penzani and Alfonso Caldarelli), one of the most active avant-garde centers in Italy that hosted important exhibitions and solo shows by Azuma starting in 1969. Characteristics of the Work and Style The drawing fully reflects the poetical philosophy of the Japanese sculptor, centered on the Zen concept of "Mu" (the Void) and the complementarity between the visible and the invisible, fullness and emptiness. Through essential lines and a calligraphic stroke in constant asymmetric tension, the artist projects on paper the three-dimensional genesis of his famous bronze sculptures. Technical Details • Artist: Kengiro Azuma (Yamagata 1926 - Milan 2016) • Technique: pencil on gallery stationery • Dimensions: about 47 x 34 • Year: 1969 • Signature: hand-signed and stamped bottom right • Provenance: Il Salotto Art Gallery (Como) – Private Collection. Condition status The work is generally in good condition, with slight and normal signs of aging and with some humidity halos probably due to poor framing. The whole does not affect the beauty and historical value of the sheet. Please carefully view the attached detailed photos.
