Haring rose to fame for his simple yet powerful line drawings, often featuring stylized figures and symbols that convey messages of love, peace, and hope. His work is noted for its accessibility and has been exhibited in galleries as well as in public spaces. Haring actively advocated for social justice and HIV/AIDS awareness and founded the Keith Haring Foundation to support art and educational projects. He is often associated with other artists of New York’s 1980s art scene. Jean-Michel Basquiat, another well-known graffiti artist and activist, shared Haring’s interest in urban art and social themes. Also often mentioned are Andy Warhol, one of the most important figures of the Pop Art movement who later supported Haring as a mentor and friend, as well as Julian Schnabel, a painter and filmmaker who was also a key figure in the Neo-Expressionist movement.
