Kalaga - Textiles - Myanmar - Mandalay style, late 20th century

Beautiful, large and antique specimen of a Kalaga — a Burmese traditional wall tapestry. A Kalaga is made from cotton, linen and velvet, decorated with metal thread, sequins and glass beads. In the border, 13 animal figures are embroidered and the central part shows a depiction of a scene from the Ramayana epic. Originally the Kalaga was used as decoration on the walls of temples, monasteries and palaces. Weight 330 grams. In good condition but shows natural signs of wear.
