K. Serkisoff Constantinople - 2755358 - 1900-1949

K. Serkisoff Constantinople – Antique pocket watch – 800 silver – Ottoman numerals – Working – circa 1890–1920 Interesting and fascinating antique pocket watch K. Serkisoff – Constantinople, presumably dating from the period between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A specimen of particular historical and collectible interest, linked to the tradition of watchmaking intended for the market of the Ottoman Empire. The white dial features a refined multicolored floral decoration, the original signature K. Serkisoff – Constantinople and a characteristic numbering in Ottoman numerals. The elegant dark hands and the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock complete the watch’s aesthetic. The case, silver-colored, is embellished with ornamental engravings along the edge and with a decorative shield engraved on the outer case back. Inside the case there are several hallmarks, including the mark 0.800, indicating silver with fineness 800/1000, whose authenticity has not been verified by metal analysis. There are also other marks and identifying numbers, documented photographically. The watch presents in aesthetic condition compatible with its age. The dial preserves the characteristic floral decoration and the original inscriptions, with signs of wear. The case has superficial scratches, small oxidations and signs of use. The watch is functioning at the time of verification. Not having undergone a professional chronometric verification, the accuracy of running nor the power reserve are guaranteed. A recent revision is not documented. Historical and collecting interest K. Serkisoff is a historically associated name with the marketing of watches for the Ottoman market, with a business address in Constantinople, today’s Istanbul. The signature on the dial, the Ottoman numeration, the floral decoration and the punched case make this specimen particularly interesting for collectors of antique watches and objects related to the history of the Ottoman Empire. A watch that represents a fascinating testimony of commercial relations and the spread of European watchmaking into Ottoman territories. The lot consists of the watch and the chain visible in the photographs. The photographs are an integral part of the description and document the actual condition of the object.
