Jules Dupré (1811-1889) - Mucche al pascolo

Oil painting on panel, attributable (signed) to the Barbizon circle painter Jules Dupré (1811-1889). The work depicts a shepherd and a herd of cows grazing near a small pond from which some drink. The distinctly impressionist style of the painting is consistent with the en plein air works that characterized his artistic activity following his association with the Barbizon artistic milieu. In the lower right, slightly visible, lies the signature Jules Dupré, also in keeping with the artist's handwriting. The condition of the work is fair. The surface is in good condition, with the presence of a very light craquelure that does not compromise its integrity; however, as visible in the photos, there are several defects and hints of cracking, as well as widespread edge erosion of the wooden support.
