Joseph Bédier / Claude Lepape - Le Roman de Tristan et Iseut - 1987

Charming numbered edition 87 on Velin Arjomari and illustrated with beautiful burin engravings by Claude Lepape, whose frontispiece accompanies this remarkable literary adaptation of one of the most famous love legends of Western medieval times - Joseph Bédier, a medievalist and specialist in early French literature, undertakes to reconstruct this story from the various medieval versions that have come down to us, notably the narratives of Béroul and Thomas of England, in order to restore the coherence of a tradition long transmitted in fragmented forms - The story recounts the tragic destinies of Tristan, valiant knight and nephew of King Mark of Cornwall, and Iseult the Blonde, princess of Ireland destined to marry this sovereign - Tasked with guiding the young woman to her future husband, Tristan undertakes with her a journey that irreversibly upsets their lives when they both drink by mistake a love philtre prepared for Iseut and King Mark - Joseph Bédier / Claude Lepape - Le Roman de Tristan et Iseut - 1987 - L'édition d'Art H.
