All auctions / Porcelain & Pottery / Johnson Bros. - Table service for 6 (7) - Porcelain - Regency Snowhite

Rare service of bowls with salad bowl produced in England by Johnson Bros. in the 20th century. The service is decorated with the "Regency Snowhite" pattern, one of the most famous in the manufacturer’s range, distinguished by ripples repeated along the rim of the plate. The set is complete for 6 people and consists of 6 bowls 13x3 cm and a salad bowl 21x5 cm. Johnson Bros. was founded in 1883 in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, by the brothers Alfred, Frederick and Henry Johnson (to whom later joined the fourth brother, Robert). They became famous for the "White Granite", a type of stoneware very durable, similar to porcelain but as sturdy as ironstone. From the late nineteenth century they rapidly expanded to the United States, where their transferware designs became iconic. In 1968, to cope with increasing competition, Johnson Brothers became part of the Wedgwood Group. In 2015, after the acquisition of the Waterford Wedgwood group by the Finnish company Fiskars, Johnson Brothers-branded production was officially terminated.
