John Latham was a pioneering British conceptual artist whose work spanned painting, sculpture, performance, film, installation, and writing. He challenged traditional ideas about art, science, space and time through his theory of 'Event Structure', which viewed reality as a sequence of events rather than fixed objects. His experimental approach transformed everyday actions into art. In 2003, he declared his studio, Flat Time House, a living sculpture based on his ideas about time. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including Tate Britain, the Venice Biennale, documenta and the Serpentine Galleries. Latham began a series of 'One Second Drawings' in 1970, by taking black spray paint and applying it to whiteboard for a period of one second. In doing so Latham attempted to represent a concept he deemed a 'least event', or the event which is closest to a state of nothingness.
