All auctions / Silver & Gold / John Hunt & Robert Roskell, London (reg. 1865) - Basket - .925 silver

Exceptional and unique object!!! Plaited-handle basket in solid sterling silver from the Victorian period, signed Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer (1813-1859) on the rim. Ornate and clad with a marine tortoiseshell, it presents a harmonious natural form and well-preserved natural motifs. The scales are visible, arranged in symmetrical plates that cover the entire exterior surface. The coloration of the shell is a striking blend of brown and yellow tones forming an almost marbled or broken pattern, with color transitions that highlight the peculiarities of each scale. Stamped throughout. The walking lion symbol, which guarantees the title of sterling silver at 92.5% purity. Leopard head: The London Assay Office hallmark. Height with the handle extended: 24 cm H x W x D (12 cm x 22.5 cm x 18.5 cm) Weight: 974 g
