Nicolai. Topics include, among others, the planets and their moons, comets, meteors, double stars, nebulae, and the parallax/distance measurement of the fixed stars. Particularly significant are Herschel's own observations and systematic investigations of numerous double stars and nebulae, on which his groundbreaking astronomical work is based. With 3 copper engravings and 4 folding plates. The pages are very cleanly preserved with occasional light stains. Overall in good condition. Bound in a handsome contemporary half-leather binding with gilding on the spine. With a library stamp at the beginning. Collation: 5 leaves, 10 numbered pages, 505 pages Dimensions: 19.5 x 13 cm
