This studio pottery stoneware vase is identified as the work of American ceramicist Joe Frank McKee, founder of Treehouse Pottery. The vessel features a tall ovoid form with a tapering base and a narrow, collarless rim. The exterior is treated with a glaze and firing process characteristic of atmospheric firing, such as wood-firing or salt-glazing, resulting in a rich gradient of earthy tones. The surface transitions from a deep, flashed reddish-brown at the shoulder to a speckled, warm orange-tan towards the foot. The body is further embellished with horizontal bands of applied slip in contrasting tones. Two circular sprigged seals or stamps are applied near the rim as decorative accents. The unglazed gray stoneware base bears the incised signature McKee, featuring a smaller raised letter c, followed by the date 76.
