The condition of the work is good. Artist biography: Joan Coll was a Catalan painter born in Girona in 1940, whose artistic career was mainly devoted to rural and mountainous landscapes. His painting sits within the Catalan landscape tradition of the second half of the 20th century, with a clear closeness to impressionism and post-impressionism, especially due to his interest in light, atmosphere and color. From a young age he showed a special sensitivity to the landscapes of the Girona region. Isolated farmhouses, rural roads, meadows, forests and mountains became the most characteristic motifs of his work. The landscape tradition of the lands of Girona and the nearby Olot School constituted an important aesthetic reference for the development of his painting. Coll mainly worked in oil on canvas, using a loose and spontaneous brushwork. His compositions are characterized by an harmonious palette of greens, ochres, blues and purples, with which he managed to represent the changes of light and the different seasons of the landscape. One of the most recognizable features of his work is the creation of soft and slightly misty atmospheres. The mountains and trees in the background tend to appear blurred, while the vegetation and the elements in the foreground display a more defined and expressive brushstroke. This combination provides depth and a sense of serenity to his landscapes. Throughout his career he especially cultivated scenes from inland Catalonia and the Pyrenean and pre-Pyrenean realms, showing a fondness for traditional farmhouses surrounded by nature, winding paths, and solitary landscapes. His painting remained true to a figurative conception of landscape, distant from the more avant-garde trends, seeking above all to convey the tranquility, the light and the poetic character of the Catalan rural world. Currently, works attributed to Joan Coll can be framed within traditional Catalan landscape painting of the second half of the 20th century, characterized by the continuity of figurative painting and by a personal interpretation of impressionist influences.
