Jean Traynier - Les quinze joies de mariage - 1946

Fascinating illustrated edition of this reading of the text by Robert Gilsoul, a remarkable satire of marital relationships and the foibles of married life. Likely composed at the beginning of the 15th century, this prose text presents itself as a succession of fifteen independent tableaux that, with humor, irony, and sometimes a certain cruelty, describe the difficulties encountered by men engaged in marriage. Through a series of everyday situations, the anonymous author depicts a domestic world in which spouses are frequently confronted with disputes, the demands of their partner, household expenses, family quarrels, and the many annoyances that accompany life together.
