Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962) - Élégante à la voilette

Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962), French painter. Elegant with a voilette, circa 1930. Original work: watercolor, gouache, and charcoal on paper. Signed at the lower right in blue « Jean Gabriel Domergue ». Interwar work, prior to the postwar mass production of elegant women. Grand Prix de Rome 1913, the artist later directed the Jacquemart‑André Museum. Dimensions: visible 27 x 22 cm; frame 42.5 x 37 cm. Condition: examined framed under glass; only the visible part is viewable, edges of the sheet and verso masked by the passe-partout. Paper uniformly yellowed. Some minor surface irregularities in the upper background, in keeping with the grain of the paper. Slight rubbing of the charcoal in the area of the voilette. Fresh coloration, blues and reds not faded. Presented in a gilded carved wood frame with white passe-partout; wear and losses to the gilding on the outer edges and corners, revealing the red bole. Sold framed.
