A superb lifetime impression of New Hollstein’s first state (of three), printing with strong touches of burr beneath the left eye and on the face, which fade in later impressions, and with the fine wiping scratches on the forehead and on the pages of the open book still clearly visible. With margins of 6–9 mm around the platemark. – With an old inscription in brown ink in the lower margin: ‘Johannes Cornelis Sylvius Amst-Bat. Verbi divini minister’. A tiny rust spot at the upper left. With some light foxing. Verso with remnants of old adhesive tape. Otherwise in good condition. | 1606 Leiden - Amsterdam 1669 | 15.-18.
