James (C. L. R.) Minty Alley, signed presentation inscription from

James (C. L. R.) Minty Alley, signed presentation inscription from the author "For Marjorie from Nello. In memory of old times" to front free endpaper, original cloth, slight bumping to spine tips and corners, dust-jacket, spine tips and corners chipped, spine a little darkened, finger-soiling to panels, extremities rubbed, 8vo, New Beacon Books, 1976. *** A presentation copy of James' only novel, first published in 1936, the first novel by a black West Indian to be published in England. We have been unable to trace definitively the recipient, but the inscription (using James' familiar nickname "Nello") implies a close associate of James' from his early Trotskyist years in the UK or US.
