Jacques Villon (born Gaston Émile Duchamp in Damville in 1875, died in Puteaux in 1963) is a major French painter and printmaker. He is the elder brother of the famous Duchamp artist family, including Marcel and Raymond. Initiated at a very young age into engraving by his grandfather, he develops a rigorous geometric style tied to Cubism and the Golden Section. Master of drypoint and of dense networks of lines, he decomposes volumes with great rational precision.
