All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Jacques Callot (1592-1635), da - 2 tavv. dai Capricci di varie figure

Rare oval-formed engravings taken from Callot's Capricci di varie figure, in which the anonymous artist created a fusion of two original engravings into one. Not dated, they can still be placed in the 17th century near the originals, nor signed; in one there is an inscription reading 'ICallot in'. Each depicts two figures, men or animals, present in a Callot engraving. Examples with wide margins, on laid paper with watermarks, in excellent condition (see photo). 1. On the left a farmer with a walking stick and a dog that is defecating beside him; on the right a mule with a saddle seen from behind, Florence in the background. For the originals by Callot, see Meaume 828 and 833; Lieure 243 and 464. 2. On each of the two sides a farmer seated at rest beside a rock, a mountainous landscape with a city in the background. For the originals by Callot, see Meaume 828 and 830; Lieure 243 and 245.
