Splendid and detailed historical map of the Veneto territory, titled "MAP GEOGRAPHIC OF THE PADUAN TERRITORY". This refined copper-engraved plate was prepared based on the topographic surveys of the renowned first royal geographer Guillaume De L'Isle (1675–1726) and marvelously engraved by the artist Francesco Cepparuli for the Venetian edition of Thomas Salmon's monumental geographical treatise, published in Venice by the publisher Giambattista Albrizzi in 1751. The map describes with extraordinary hydrographic and topographic accuracy the heart of the Veneto territory in the eighteenth century, showing not only the Province of Padua but also the entire Venetian Lagoon, the Polesine of Rovigo, the courses of the Brenta and Adige rivers, up to the borders with Vicentino and Trevisano (Vicenza and Treviso areas). The work is made strongly scenographic and elegant by a picturesque pastoral cartouche positioned at the top, depicting a stone milestone bearing the title, flanked by a tree, a grazing cow and wine barrels, elements typical that evoke the fertility and agricultural wealth of the Paduan countryside. A beautiful eighteenth-century cartographic testimony, printed on contemporaneous laid paper and rich in historical toponyms, ideal for collectors and enthusiasts of the local history of the Triveneto.
