Italy - Bressanone; Braun & Hogenberg - Brixia Tyrolis - 1581-1600

Splendid and historically significant Renaissance panoramic view of the town of Bressanone (South Tyrol), titled "Brixia Tyrolis" in the heraldic cartouche at the upper right. The work is drawn from the famed fourth volume of the "Civitates Orbis Terrarum," the most important atlas of cities ever published, edited by Georg Braun and engraved by Frans Hogenberg in Cologne starting in 1588. The copper engraving shows a detailed bird's-eye view of the episcopal city, with its fortifications, the cathedral, and the topography of the surrounding river valley. In the foreground are finely depicted figures in traditional period costumes and scenes of rural life. An exemplary impression on contemporary paper, with evident and genuine editorial folds. Descriptive text in Latin is present on the back of the sheet, as is customary for the original sheets of this atlas. Dimensions 24 x 53 cm It will be shipped by courier
