Ca. AD 14501550 An Italian wrought iron lance head featuring a long, slender, four-sided blade of tapering form, terminating in a narrow, reinforced point. The blade has a pronounced quadrangular section, with longitudinal ridges extending towards the tip and a slightly expanded lower portion transitioning into the socket. The hollow cylindrical socket is designed for attachment to a wooden shaft and displays a longitudinal opening along its lower section. The robust construction and reinforced point are characteristic of lance heads intended for thrusting and penetrating armour. The iron surface retains extensive dark oxidation, mottled patination and signs of age-related wear. Size: 30mm Provenance: Private London collection; US art market, before 2000.
