Italian school (XX) - Ritratto in interno signorile

An intimate, intimate atmosphere pervades this interior scene: a young woman in an ivory-colored evening gown sits pensively on an elegant sofa in the Louis-Philippe style, her head resting on her hand in a gesture of sweet surrender. Her direct gaze toward the observer and the warm complexion, rendered with soft chiaroscuro, give the subject a strong presence and naturalness. The setting, carefully detailed—the blue ceramic peony vase, the shelf clock, the stack of bound books, the floral-patterned carpet—restores an atmosphere of refined bourgeois daily life, almost an interior 'stolen' from a moment of quiet. The brushwork, soft and well blended, alternates precise descriptive detail (the lace of the dress, the jewelry, the pink shoes) with a freer touch in the background, in a figurative taste of late 19th-century style. The work is signed in the bottom right corner 'Susy B.' The painting is presented on primed canvas, ready to be framed according to the buyer's taste.
