Annunciation of the Lord (Annunciation to Mary) The oval-shaped painting depicts the biblical scene of the Annunciation. Top left, floating on a cloud, the Archangel Gabriel appears with dark wings and a lily in his hand. Above him, the Holy Spirit dove in a radiant halo is visible, from which a beam of light emanates. On the right, the Virgin Mary kneels in a red gown with a blue mantle and gazes devoutly downward. In the background, a subtly suggested architecture- and hill landscape can be discerned.
