Italian school (XVI) - Santa Orando

Title: Saint Praying School: Italian (XVI-XVII) Style: Late Renaissance / Devotional Technique: Oil on panel The present work represents a Saint Praying in a composition of marked spiritual and contemplative character, typical of Italian religious painting of the 16th-17th centuries. The saint appears standing, holding an open book between her hands while directing her gaze upwards in an attitude of ecstasy and mystical recollection. The scene conveys a deep devotional charge through the serenity of the gesture and the sobriety of the composition. The artist uses a restrained palette dominated by dark and earthy tones, contrasted with the intense red mantle that envelops the figure and provides verticality and visual drama to the scene. The soft lighting delicately models the face and hands, emphasizing the saint's introspective expression. The neutral background, barely sketched, centers all attention on the main figure, following the classical schemes of Italian religious painting transitioning between Mannerism and early Baroque naturalism. The work shows restorations, in keeping with its age. The frame, carved and gilded wood, presents a classic structure of stepped moldings and a sober finish, adequately complementing the historical and religious character of the painting. Measurements: 69.5 x 45 cm Measurements with frame: 83.5 x 56 cm Observations: The work may incur damages during transport even with proper packaging.
