All auctions / Miscellaneous / Interior of Westminster Abbey Max Emanuel Ainmiller

After training in Friedrich Gärtner’s class for architecture and ornamentation in Munich, the artist devoted himself to stained glass and the depiction of (primarily sacred) architecture. On his journey to Great Britain in 1843, he visited Westminster Abbey, the interior of which he frequently depicted as a motif both in that same year and in the years that followed. This work is the first known painting featuring this motif and marks the beginning of this significant body of work. With a keen eye for architectural detail and superb handling of light, the depiction exudes a sacred and peaceful atmosphere. | 1807 - München - 1870 | 19.
