INTERESTING PAINTING "PEUGEOT 104, PARIS" by François BRICQ - Lot 234

INTERESTING PAINTING "PEUGEOT 104, PARIS" by François BRICQ - Lot 234

INTERESTING PAINTING "PEUGEOT 104, PARIS" by François BRICQ (1937–2013) Acrylic on canvas, framed; signed and dated “Janv 81” on the back of the stretcher. Bears an address on the stretcher: “7 rue des Cloys, Paris.” Dimensions: approx. 80.5 x 100 cm Good condition, with minor signs of wear on the bottom. Born in 1937, François Bricq spent part of his childhood, during World War II, in Villiers-Adam, where he attended elementary school. Despite the still-rural setting of his hometown at the time, the drawings he produced in abundance during this period primarily depicted cars, airplanes, and war scenes. After earning a DES in geography and then a CAPES in 1969, he went on to teach at a high school in the Paris region and later in Paris itself. He regarded this early phase of his professional career as “a wrong turn” that temporarily distanced him from drawing and painting, to which he returned around 1967 and especially in the wake of the events of May 1968, creating posters, silkscreen prints, and paintings. He became involved in the “La Jeune Peinture” movement and officially left teaching in 1978. He then set up his studio in Montmartre and devoted himself to painting. During this period, his artistic interest focused on the reflections produced by metallic surfaces, particularly those of aircraft fuselages, propellers, and car bodies. In 1982, one of World War II’s top pilots, Colonel Edmond Petit, took notice of his paintings of airplanes, which led to his appointment as Painter to the Air Force, a position he held until 2005. He exhibited regularly from 1971 to 2005, then worked exclusively for a few major European collectors.
