Indian Terracotta Tile Fragment Head

This ancient Indian terracotta tile fragment features a powerfully modeled, high-relief portrait head representing a Hindu deity. The fragment displays a characteristic expressive style, with large almond-shaped eyes, stylized arched eyebrows, a broad nose, and a meticulously detailed beaded or textured headdress. Originally part of a large-scale decorative frieze or panel adorning the exterior walls of an early brick temple complex, the tile retains its rich, naturally aged reddish-ochre clay tone. The reverse reveals a hollowed-out back panel used to ease the kiln-firing process and secure the tile into the brickwork masonry. Dimensions: 8.5"W x 7"H Country of Origin: India Weight: 5.25 lbs.
