The precious corals, which are mainly used to make jewellery, come in a variety of colours. The spectrum ranges from white to a delicate pink, to the much sought-after salmon colour in light and dark shades, to the strong and dark red, which is also known as oxblood. Each type of coral has its very own play of colours and this is how the coral types can be differentiated. This necklace is made from natural red precious coral from the Mediterranean. The corals have a uniform, intense red colour. A gold clasp with ten diamonds holds the 21 strands together and adds a vibrant contrast to the warm red colour of the marine treasures. Multi-strand necklaces like this one, where the individual strands can be twisted together, are called torsades. This term is derived from the French ‘torsadée’, which means ‘twisted’. The beauty of such torsades is that they can be worn with twisted strands as well as free. This means you can always create a new look.
