Chicago, Illinois, 1883. 100 Shares I/U Stock Certificate, Black print with black border, Mining vignette at top center under company title, Gold embossed seal at lower left corner, S/N 129, VF condition. The Humboldt Nickel & Copper Mining Company was incorporated in Chicago, Illinois, in 1883 with authorized capital of $1,000,000 divided into 20,000 shares at $50 each. Likely organized to explore or develop nickel and copper deposits during the U.S. mining boom of the 1880s, the company represents a typical speculative venture of the period. Though no detailed records of operations survive, its ornate stock certificate—with mining vignette and bold typography—reflects the era’s enthusiasm for industrial and mineral development investments.
