Ibrahim Kodra (1918-2006) - Maternità

An original and highly meaningful work by Albanian artist Ibrahim Kodra. It is a mixed-media piece on newspaper; the newspaper in question is the Romanian daily Scinteia Poporului of December 23, 1989, which announces the end of Nicolae Ceausescu's dictatorship and his condemnation to the death penalty. The artist paints on the news of Ceausescu's death sentence, a maternity, a symbolic image of the birth of a new life. Kodra spent most of his life in Italy, dividing his time between Milan (where his House Museum is located) and the Amalfi coast, where he spent his summer holidays. Currently, a major exhibition is underway in Tirana at the spaces of the Albanian National Bank. The exhibition can be visited until November 23.
