It is regarded as a stone of peace, and it is believed that its calming effect induces tranquil dreams and connects the dreamer with the Divine. This clarity and serenity also benefit the waking mind, easing the flow of thoughts in mental and metaphysical realms. Diviners often carry it along with their oracle tools, such as tarot cards. Amethyst is the zodiac stone for Pisces, ruled by Jupiter, and is the February birthstone in both traditional and modern lists. One legend says that Saint Valentine wore an amethyst ring bearing Cupid’s image, which may seem contradictory given the gemstone’s reputation as a calming influence on passions. However, in medieval times, chastened love was valued as much as true love, and amethyst symbolized this vision of love.
