Hooijkaas (Schoonhoven) – Year mark C (1962) – Weight: 24 grams A piece of quintessential Dutch small silver from the mid-20th century. This refined letter opener was crafted by the renowned Schoonhoven silversmith H. Hooijkaas and is in a beautiful, authentic condition. The letter opener is stamped with the 4 official Dutch silver hallmarks: • Master mark: 'HH' placed in a hexagon (the official hallmark of H. Hooijkaas from the period after 1946). • Fineness mark: Walking Lion II with an 'II' underneath (2nd fineness silver, 835/1000). • Assay mark: Minerva’s head with the letter 'M' (Keurkantoor Schoonhoven). • Year mark: The stylized letter 'C', indicating year of manufacture 1962. Condition: The letter opener has a total weight of 24 grams. The silver is in nice condition with a slight, natural oxidation (patina) that gives the object its character. The opener has not been polished to preserve authenticity for the collector. A beautiful, functional piece for a classic desk.
