Magnificent 1919 Chartered Bank $10 Specimen in PMG 64 HONG KONG (SAR). Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China. 10 Dollars, 1.7.1919. P-42s. KNB24S. Specimen. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Printed by Waterlow and Sons. Signed by Thomas Charles Downing. Excellent large size $10 specimen dated July 1919. The 'Cheque' series was last issued in 1910 and was soon replaced by the 'Scenic' series from 1911. The $10 denomination, issued until 1929, covers three subtypes. Although the first subtype was issued for the longest period, from 1911 to May 1923, it remains the most coveted due to its low print run and bank recall due to circulation damage. This 1919 $10 specimen displays full, original bright colours and excellent paper preservation. Minor peripheral toning prevents this from achieving EPQ status, but who could fault this on a note that is over one hundred years old? The PMG census shows a total population of just four notes for this specimen type, and this is the SINGLE HIGHEST GRADE. A remarkable item worthy of a place among the pinnacles of Hong Kong banknote collections. PMG Comments "Minor Foreign Substance."
