etherlandish School, circa 1800–1820 – Still Life with Roses, Grapes, Pomegranate and Ornamental Urn Atmospheric early 19th-century still life, painted in oil on wooden panel and dating from circa 1800–1820. The composition depicts an abundant arrangement of flowers and fruit, including roses, grapes and an opened pomegranate, combined with a richly decorated ornamental urn. The dark background, dramatic arrangement and decorative character clearly reflect the long tradition of Dutch and Flemish flower still-life painting. The work is stylistically indebted to the tradition of Gaspar Peeter Verbruggen the Younger (1664–1730) and other Netherlandish/Flemish flower painters whose compositions remained influential well into the 18th and early 19th centuries. The painting has a strong decorative presence, with attractive contrasts between the pale flowers, deep red fruit, dark background and ornamental vessel. Condition The painting is in good antique condition considering its age. The panel appears stable. Minor imperfections and signs of age are consistent with a work of more than 200 years old. The frame shows age related wear, small losses and traces of use and is included as a complimentary part of the lot.
